Today is just as any other day?
“I call on States to honour their obligation to protect human rights every day of the year. I call on people to hold their governments to account. “- UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon
Yes and No. Yes, as it is a special day proclaimed by the UN General Assembly as Human Rights Day in 1950, to bring to the attention ‘of the peoples of the world’ the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as the common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations. No, as human rights, should be honoured, protected and respected each day of the year, on any other day, not just today!
This year’s slogan, Human Rights 365, encompasses the idea that every day is Human Rights Day. Supporting the slogan and the idea behind, CRCD celebrates this day and urges for much greater support and cooperation among governments, institutions working in the field of human rights, activist groups, individuals in promoting and protecting human rights, as they belong to all of us and bind us together!
