The Ems Dollart Region (EDR) is a cross border organisation in the most northern Dutch-German border area.
After some years of preparation the EDR was founded in 1977 in order to promote cooperation in the German-Dutch border region and to intensify cross border contact. After years of a strict separation by the border, the target was to create a “Europe of the regions” by building up and enhance future contacts and networks between people, companies and organisations.
The increasing cooperation in the EDR strives to contribute to removing the negative aspects that result from the region’s peripheral location in the country and from it being a (former) border area. It also strives to recognise and benefit from the advantages a converging Europe offers in many different fields.
